Football player. Born in Bellshill (North Lanarkshire). One of the greatest goal-scorers of his generation, Ally McCoist became Glasgow Rangers FC's leading scorer when, in 1997, he reached his 421st goal for the club. He was a key member of the team when it won nine league championships in succession, beginning 1988-89 and also secured 57 caps for Scotland. Between 1998 and 2001 he played for Kilmarnock FC, whilst also branching into television, working as a chat show and panel game host, and soccer commentator. Having retired as a player, he became a coach at Rangers in 2004, under Walter Smith. He was appointed Assistance Manager in 2007 and succeeded Smith as Manager in 2011.
He was awarded an MBE in 1994 and lives with his family in Bridge of Weir (Renfrewshire). The Alistair McCoist Complex in East Kilbride is named in his honour.
