Charles Hope, 3rd Marquess of Linlithgow (1974)

Noble and soldier. The son of Victor Alexander John Hope, the 2nd Marquis of Linlithgow, Hope was the elder twin of John Adrian Hope (1912 - 1996). He was educated at Eton and Oxford, graduating in 1936. Hope served with the 51st Highland Division during World War II. He was captured at Dunkirk (1940) and was eventually sent to Colditz Castle, the German prisoner-of-war camp for persistent escapees. He succeeded his father as the 3rd Marquis of Linlithgow in 1952 and was responsible for founding a charitable trust to preserve Hopetoun House and estate in 1974.
