Eric Campbell


1879 - 1917

Actor. Born in Dunoon, he emigrated for California, where he found fame in the early silent Charlie Chaplin films, including The Rink (1916), The Pawnshop (1916), The Adventurer (1917), The Cure (1917), The Immigrant (1917), Easy Street (1917) and Chase me Charlie (1917). His stereo-typical portrayal was as the large, bearded ogre.

Campbell was killed in Los Angeles (California) as the result of a road accident. His ashes lay unclaimed for many years before being buried in Rosedale Cemetery (Los Angeles).
