Panmure Testimonial

A village in a parish of the same name in Angus, Monikie is situated four miles north of Monifieth and adjacent to Monikie Country Park which includes two reservoirs formerly serving the City of Dundee. Also in the parish are the settlements of Craigton, Newbigging and Kirkton of Monikie. Nearby is Affleck Castle which is associated with the Lindsay and Auchinleck families and on Downie Hill, near the site of the former Panmure House, stands the Panmure Testimonial which was built by grateful tenants in the 19th Century to commemorate the generosity of the Earl of Panmure. The Monikie Reservoirs, which date from 1847-53, and were last used as a source of water in April 1981, were developed into a Country Park that was opened in August 1981.
