17 October 2004:
John M McPhedran, otherwise known as the Renfrewshire Beekeeper, lived at Craigbet, Bridge of Weir. He was born in Greenock in 1827 and retired to Craigbet in 1854, apparently inheriting the property from his maternal grandfather, John McCulloch. Soon after retiring, John McPhedran took up beekeeping and became an enthusiast for the Stewarton Hive, writing in the Cottage Gardener from 1860 and the British Bee Journal from 1873.
