The Castle referred to as 'Cardross Castle' is in fact the three storey house built in the 1600's for JOHN NAPIER, it is situated a short ditance from the derelict St Peter's College. There is a memorial stone on the main road in the village describing the location and informing tourists, particularly American descendants, that this is the Napier line that emigrated to North America.

Robert the Bruce did not die in what is at present known as Cardross. He died in the Parish of Cardross as it was in the 1300's, this Parish ran basically from the the current Levengrove Park area down the west side of the River Leven to Dalquhurn. Bruce's 'Castle' - A wooden fort, was situated at the area known as Pillowflats, on the banks of the River Leven, halfway between Dalreoch, Dumbarton and Renton.
