: Comments on Parish%20of%20Shotts

I would dispute the fact that the parish of Shotts should also be known as Calderhead. To quote from the historical entry for the parish of Shotts

"The parish contains also the quoad sacra churches of Calderhead, Harthill and Benhar, and Cleland, and embraces part of the quoad sacra parish of Clarkston." I believe Calderhead quoad sacra Parish was established in 1860.

The registration district of Calderhead was established according to "The Gazetteer of Scotland" by Rev. John Wilson (1882):

CALDERHEAD, registration district, disjoined in 1863 from Cambusnethan and Shotts, Lanarkshire. It has an Established church. Pop. 4158.

Calderhead should be linked with the more recent town of Shotts rather than the older Parish of Shotts. The original parish church Shottskirk or Kirk O' Shotts is several miles from the town of Shotts beside the village of Salsburgh. There was a settlement here at one time and also a nearby Shotts Inn and Shotts Toll. The town of Shotts was established at a later date taking in settlements such as Shotts Iron Works, Dykehead and Stane(in Cambusnethan Parish?)
