Sirs,
I have just looked up the entry for Gardyne Castle, and would like to point out that the Gardynes did not disapear, but moved to a very nice house just down the road from Gardyne called Midileton of Gardyne where they have been ever since !!. Although in the early 1800rds there where 3 daughters, the eldest married a Bruce and became Bruce - Gardyne, and they live at Midleton, the middle married a Carnegie, and the youngest a Greenhill, this was my mothers branch and we lived at a place called Finavon till the early 80ties.

yours Jas Mazur.

Hello from New Zealand
My Graet Grandfather William Alexander Smith was the Factor of the Castle Huntly estate for most all of his Life and well into his 70's I understand. My Great Uncle David and most all of the family are interred in the Church Graveyard opposite the Lonforgan Village post office.
My family here are interested in their Scottish History ( I was born in Scotland) But sadly since my Father died we have no or very little information on our Paternal side. We believe that given there were three great aunts and one great uncle and our Grandfather Is there any person researching these people or may have come across any information on my Family
I would very much like to hear from anyone in regard to the above.
Very many thanks
John

I am coming to visit Scotland in September and would love to be able to make contact with any of my relatives. My father was John Loudon, born in Glasgow in 1907. He emigrated to Australia with his parents Thomas & Agnes Loudon (nee Snedden)and his 9 siblings in approx 1914. His parents were married in Paisley and Thomas lived at Oban, while Agnes lived in Paisley. My father was born in Govan St, Glasgow. Agnes' mother was Margaret (nee Collins) Snedden who later married Robert Logan after Richard Snedden's death. I think Thomas' father was Alexander; witnesses at their wedding were Christina Snedden and John Loudon. If anyone can assist me in locating any decendants of the above I would love to hear from them.

I am currently researching my family history and needs some help. My great great grandfather Lachlan McLean, was married in Victoria, Australia and states on his marriages certificate that he was born in 1837 in Nigg, Cromarty Scotland, to parents Lachlan McLean (Weaver) and Mary McPhail. I have been searching quite alot and can only find a few McLean's in Nigg. Who don't seem to be mine. Most of the Mclean's seem to be in the Mull area. Does anyone know anything of McLeans in or around the Nigg area? Many Thanks

I am planning to visit Scotland in July 06 and would like to find my Scottish ancestors if possible. My grandmother Margaret Dickson Stenhouse was the daughter of Edith (aka Elizabeth) Dickson and George Stenhouse. They married in Scotland in about 1870 and lived in Pumphleston, before emigrating to Australia in about 1896. They had a family of about 8 children and my grandmother was somewhere in the middle. They were Presbyterians. If anyone knows of anyone from the Stenhouse or Dickson families who may be related to them I would greatly appreciate hearing from them. I have just started tracing my family so have no idea where any of them are although I have a lot of details about the Australian family.

Looking for information on a place which I believe is on Arran. It's from a Testament dated 1611, which states that Johne Wilsone was in Campeltone (sic) Parish of Kilbryde. Could anyone tell me to what exactly the testament is refering. Was it perhaps a farm or tenancy called 'Campbeltone', or is actually Campbeltown on Kintyre and if so why the Parish of Kilbryde? I have copies of the will if anyone wants to look at it. "Wilsone Johne" 21/11/1611 in Campbeltone, parish of Kilbryde Testament Testamentar & Inventory Glasgow Commissary Court CC9/7/8.

Regards,

David

Hi I have just discovered your site and it has been very helpful. I am carrying out some family history research about my great, great, grandfather Thomas Cook who was born at New Monkland (near Airdrie) and lived in New Stevenston for the 1851 census (he was 11 and a coil miner at the time). Could anybody advise me on any books etc. which describe the area and the industry of this area around 1840 - 1860. I would love to find out what it was like at that time.
thanks

I was thrilled to find this website. We are hoping to come to Scotland in your summer, if my health permits, and then I will try to get that donation to you. My husband isn't keen on Internet Transactions not that we don't trust your website but with him and my two sons in the IT industry, one in security, we have learnt to be cautious of those who would harm, which most times are not the people running the website. I do so hope we get there. It has been a dream of mine for years and your website only added to my longing. It's strange how you can be third or fourth generation Australian and yet the word Scotland warms your heart and the televised Military Tattoo or the bagpipes really sets your heart singing. I am proud to be an Australian but a small part of me is proud to be Scottish. With Scottish relatives on both sides of paternal and maternal grandparents, I guess it's to be expected. Keep up the good work.
A friend.

My grandfather David Simpson Macdonald was born in Laurencekirk near Dundee on 7 April 1876. He migrated to Australia and amongst his achievements he invented the sound box for gramaphones, won the King's Cup for rifle shooting and established a large wood crafting business.
His parents were William Macodnald born 26/9/1835 in Kirkmichael Perthshire and Elisabeth McDonald born 21/2/1929 in Stonehaven Kincardinshire.William's father was named John McDonald from Craig of Soilrie and mother Ann Robertson from Inverchoskie.
My wife and I plan to travel to Launercekirk in April/May 2006 and wonder if there is anyone who can help us track down more family members, research more details about my lineage.
