The settlement of Carmacoup is located a mile (1.5 km) southwest of Glespin and 3 miles (5 km) southwest of Douglas in South Lanarkshire Council Area. The Carmacoup Mill operated on the Douglas Water in the 19th C. producing yarn, but by the middle of that century coal mining was established here, with the Kennox Colliery operating until 1972.
