Ranfurly

(Ramforlie)
Renfrewshire

A settlement on the south side of Bridge of Weir in Renfrewshire, of which it is now effectively a suburb, Ranfurly takes its name from the 15th C. castle that was home to the Knox family, of which churchman John Knox (1514-72) was a descendant. Anciently known as Ramforlie, the settlement developed in the second half of the 19th C. and now includes two golf courses (Ranfurly Castle and Old Course Ranfurly). Ranfurly Church fell from use in 1968 and has been divided to form private flats.
