Perth and Kinross

A hamlet in Strathtay, Perth and Kinross, Kincraigie lies to the west of the River Tay, 5 miles (7 km) northwest of Dunkeld. Immediately to the north is Kinnaird Castle (Kinnaird House) built c.1770 by the Duke of Atholl and extended in c.1900 and 1928-29. Now a hotel, it has a notable drawing room with panels containing Highland scenes painted in French rococo style. During 1823-24 Kinnaird House was tenanted by the Buller family whose tutor, Thomas Carlyle (1795 - 1881) wrote most of his 'Life of Schiller' here.
