A hamlet in the Carse of Gowrie, Perth and Kinross, Kingoodie lies on the River Tay estuary, 4 miles (6 km) west of Dundee. The village owes its origin to nearby quarries which supplied fine building stone for several centuries. The stone was particularly valued for harbour works and constructing sea walls. A small harbour here was used in the 19th Century to export stone and import coal.
