Kirkmichael

Perth and Kinross

The village of Kirkmichael is located in the valley of Strathardle, 9 miles (14 km) east of Pitlochry in Perth and Kinross Council Area. It benefits from a community-run shop, encompassing a post office, filling station and small café. Settlement here is believed to date from about 200 BC, relics from this time were discovered in the 1930s. Like many of the villages of the area it has had a turbulent past, Oliver Cromwell stationed his army here in 1653, a battle subsequently took place in the grounds of the church, while in 1715, clans sympathetic to the Jacobite cause gathered before marching south. The village hosts the Strathardle Highland Gathering and Agricultural Show every August.
