Allanton

North Lanarkshire

A village in the valley of the South Calder Water, Allanton lies 4 miles (6.5 km) northwest of Wishaw and 2 miles (3 km) north of Bonkle. It developed in the 20th century in association with the nearby Kingshills Colliery. The mine finally closed in 1973, although open-cast workings remain to the southeast.
