Located a mile (1.5 km) northeast of the North Lanarkshire settlement of Twechar, Auchinstarry lies on the southern bank of the Forth and Clyde Canal. To the north lie the upper reaches of the River Kelvin and the town of Kilsyth. Between Auchinstarry and Croy, which lies a half-mile (1 km) to the southeast, lie the remains of a Roman Fort and two beacon platforms. These remains were associated with the Antonine Wall.
