Guirdil

Highland

An abandoned settlement on the northwest coast of Rum in the Inner Hebrides, Guirdil looks out across Guirdil Bay to the Sound of Canna, 5 miles (8 km) west southwest of Kinloch. The name is of
Norse origin. Access is via a footpath which extends along the length of Glen Shellesder and then along the coast to the Guirdil. Only one roofed building remains - Guirdil Bothy - although the footings of at least two others, together with a field system, remain extant. The bothy is freely accessible for hillwalkers staying overnight.
