Bridge of Don

Aberdeen City

Once an industrial village in the parish of Old Machar, Bridge of Don has grown substantially and is now regarded as a district of Aberdeen City. It is situated to the north of the River Don, opposite what is known as Old Aberdeen. To the east are located the Offshore Technology Park, an Industrial Estate and the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre. To the southwest is the Aberdeen Science and Technology Park. Food processing, construction, transport, engineering and oil-related industries predominate. There are several primary schools and two sizeable secondary schools; namely Bridge of Don Academy (1979) and Oldmachar Academy (1983). Bridge of Don also benefits from a Retail Park, Balgownie Community Centre, Bridge of Don Community Centre, the Alex Collie Sports and Community Centre and the Jesmond Sports Centre, together with 18 and 9-hole golf courses.
