Tornagrain

Highland

A small hamlet of the Inverness district of Highland Council Area, Tornagrain lies 7 miles (11 km) northeast of Inverness and a mile (2 km) southwest of Inverness Airport. The Moray Estates have created Tornagrain new town ¾ mile (1.2 km) to the east, based on the principles of a sustainable community. Begun in 2015, following more than a decade of planning, houses are built in a traditional mock-Georgian architectural style, featuring whitewashed walls and grey-slated roofs. The first residents arrived in 2017 but the aim is to provide 4960 new homes with associated facilities, amenities and services over the next fifty years. The development has a town centre focussed on a High Street with squares at either end, providing retail and commercial space. Three surrounding neighbourhoods are planned, each with local facilities including schools. The town will eventually extend to 250 ha (620 ares) including sizeable areas of green space.

A large chipboard manufacturing plant is located on the railway, a mile (1.5 km) to the west of the original village, close to Castle Stuart.
