Mingarry

(Mingarry Park, Mingarrypark, Min Ghearraidh)
Highland

A settlement lying between Sunart and Moidart in Highland Council Area, Mingarry (Gael: Min Ghearraidh, referred to on Ordnance Survey maps as Mingarrypark) is located a mile (1.6 km) northeast of Acharacle. The grand Roman Catholic church of Our Lady of the Angels was constructed by James Hope-Scott (1812-73), the owner of the Loch Shiel Estate, on which the settlement sits. Hope-Scott also built a school, which is no longer in educational use. Also located here are Mingarry Village Hall and the Mingarry Park Guest House (formerly the Clanranald Hotel). The abandoned original village, now known as Upper Mingarry, lies to the north beyond Mingarry Woods.
