A former fishing hamlet on the Moray Firth coast of the Black Isle, Kilmuir is located 2½ miles (4 km) northeast of Inverness and 1¼ miles (2 km) northeast of the Kessock Bridge. Ord Hill lies just to the southwest. The parish church of Kilmuir Wester is in ruins, although the churchyard remains in use. Not to be confused with another Kilmuir and the parish of Kilmuir Easter which lie 15 miles (24 km) to the northeast.
