A growing settlement in Perth & Kinross, Oudenarde (sometimes Oudenard) lies on the opposite side of the M90 motorway from Bridge of Earn, 3¾ miles (6 km) south southeast of Perth. The settlement is located on the site of the former Bridge of Earn Hospital and takes its name from the farm of Oudenard, which remains to the northeast. That farm was named after a 1708 victory by the Duke of Marlborough during the War of the Spanish Succession. The first houses were built in 2019, and the intention is that the settlement grows to 1600 homes, with educational and community facilities.
Established during the Second World War to cope with an expected influx of casualties after the 1944 D-Day landings, Bridge of Earn Hospital was transferred to the National Health Service in 1948. It became one of Perthshire's leading hospitals, and a regional centre for orthopaedic and plastic surgery. It was a major source of employment until it closed in 1993. Most of the buildings were demolished in 2006, with the exception of a few hospital cottages which remain occupied.
