Perth and Kinross

A hamlet in Orwell parish, Perth & Kinross, Mawcarse comprises two parts, separated by the Maw Burn, and is located 2 miles (3 km) east northeast of Milnathort and 2¾ miles (4.5 km) northwest of Kinnesswood. It is first mentioned as Macherderrly about 1346 and appears as Maw on Roy's Military Survey maps of 1755. The western part comprises a few cottages associated with Mawcarse Farm, while the larger eastern part is a modern linear settlement lying to the northwest of the former Mawcarse Station, which closed in 1964. There are no facilities in the settlement.
