Drummuie


Highland

A location to the west of Golspie in E Sutherland, Highland Council Area, Drummuie comprises a farm and a group of buildings dating from c.1809 which, until the 1960s, was associated with the Sutherland Technical School, now the technical annexe to Golspie High School. The Technical School was established in 1903 by Millicent, Duchess of Sutherland, and was the first school in Scotland to provide free residential education for the sons of crofters from isolated communities in the Highlands and Islands. The school was funded jointly by the 4th Duke of Sutherland and philanthropist Andrew Carnegie (1835 - 1918).
