Cawdor Post Office & Village Store

A name associated with a thanage mentioned in Shakespeare's 'Macbeth', the castle and hamlet of Cawdor are situated on the Allt Dearg, a tributary of the River Nairn, 13 miles (20 km) east of Inverness, Highland Council Area. Cawdor developed in association with the castle, a stronghold of the Campbells, which was rebuilt as a stone tower c.1372 and extended in the mid 15th Century. The Royal Brackla whisky distillery, located to the east, was founded in 1812 by William Fraser.
