Argyll and Bute

A location in the centre of the island of Islay, Argyll and Bute, Grobolls comprises two abandoned farmsteads lying a quarter-mile (0.4 km) apart, 1¼ miles (2 km) east of Bowmore. Next to the westernmost is a peculiar hillock known as Cnoc Ghrobolls, which may be of archaeological interest. The name derives from the Old Norse bolstadr, meaning 'farm' or 'living place'.
