Shieldhill

Dumfries and Galloway

A small settlement and a farm in NE Dumfries and Galloway, Shieldhill is located on the right bank of the Water of Ae, 3½ miles (5.5 km) west northwest of Lochmaben and 4 miles (6.5 km) northeast of Locharbriggs. There was once a station here on the Dumfries, Lochmaben and Lockerbie Railway which opened in 1863 but closed in 1952. The line was abandoned in 1966. The ominously named Murder Loch lies just to the west, while a Roman fortlet was identified immediately to the northeast in 1974 from aerial photographs.
