Achfary

Highland

A settlement in Sutherland, Highland Council Area, Achfary lies at the northern end of Loch More, 6 miles (10 km) southeast of Laxford Bridge. Strath Stack extends northwestwards and to the west lies Reay Forest. The settlement was developed around a shooting lodge in the 1800s by the Dukes of Sutherland and then the 1st Duke of Westminster, the Westminster Estates still owning much of the surrounding area. The timber-clad Achfary school was built in 1953 in an English rustic style.

Britain's highest-ever December temperature of 18.7°C was recorded here on the 28th December 2019, breaking a record which had been held by Achnashellach for seventy years.
