A small commuter town in East Dunbartonshire, Lenzie lies immediately south of Kirkintilloch and 3 miles (5 km) northeast of Bishopbriggs. It developed on open moor after the opening in 1842 of a railway station serving Kirkintilloch on a site laid out by the Edinburgh and Glasgow Railway Company. Lenzie Academy and a mental hospital opened in the 1890s and the village gradually expanded as a dormitory settlement for Glasgow.
