Rhonehouse

(Kelton Hill)
Dumfries and Galloway

A hamlet of Dumfries and Galloway, Rhonehouse lies to the east of the River Dee, 2 miles (3 km) southwest of Castle Douglas. Also known as Kelton Hill, it comprises one and two-storey 19th and 20th-century houses. A horse and cattle fair was once held here in mid-summer, often a riotous affair, and it was here that the Leveller's Revolt of 1724 had been proposed the previous year. Kelton Hill rises to 121m (396 feet) adjacent to Threave Gardens to the northeast.
