A hamlet of Annandale in Dumfries and Galloway, Boreland lies on the Boreland Burn, 6 miles (10 km) north northeast of Lockerbie. Hutton Primary School is located here. Built in 1897 and extended in 1906, it has a roll of 21 (2017). Boreland House lies to the north, while Hutton Mill lies a short distance to the northwest on the Dryfe Water.
