A small hamlet of Annandale in Dumfries and Galloway, Applegarth Town lies on the east bank of the River Annan close to its junction with the Nethercleugh Burn, 3 miles (5 km) northwest of Lockerbie. Applegarth Primary School lies 2 miles (3 km) to the north northeast, on the opposite side of the A74(M) motorway. It was founded by the Jardines, the local lairds, in the 19th C. and re-opened after renovation in 1994.
