Little Clyde

South Lanarkshire

An isolated location in the S of South Lanarkshire, Little Clyde comprises a farmstead lying within the boundaries of a well-preserved Roman marching camp. Situated on the north side of the M74 motorway and the West Coast Main Line railway at Beattock Summit, Little Clyde is further hemmed in by plantation forest, with the Clyde Wind Farm (North) beyond. The camp is rectangular in plan and measures 440m (1443 feet) by 290m (951 feet) within its defences, which enclose an area of 12.7 ha (31.4 acres). It is said to be one of the best preserved in Scotland.
