Dormont

Dumfries and Galloway

A settlement and an estate in Annandale, in the E of Dumfries and Galloway, Dormont lies a half-mile (0.8 km) north northwest of Dalton and 4½ miles (7 km) south southwest of Lockerbie. The estate extends to 406 ha (1000 acres) and has been owned by the Carruthers family since 1452. Dating from 1830, Dormont House lay next to Dormont Lake, immediately to the south of the River Annan, but was demolished in 1953. The principal house is now at Dormont Grange, next to the Home Farm, while opposite is Dormont Park, an award-winning development of eight semi-detached homes for rent, completed in 2011. The estate generates income through farming, forestry, fishing and renting holiday and long-term accommodation. The Ninefold Rum Distillery was established on Dormont Home Farm in 2019.
