Avontoun

(Avonton)

A location in West Lothian, close to the border of with Falkirk which follows the River Avon less a quarter-mile (0.4 km) to the northwest, Avontoun (Avonton) represents a former mansion and estate a half-mile (1 km) southwest of Linlithgow Bridge. The Battle of Linlithgow Bridge took place here in 1526. The mansion was built by Robert Blair, Lord Avontoun (1741 - 1811), who Lord President of the Court of Session. It is now the site of metal-processing company.
