A suburb in the E of Glasgow City, Sandhills lies between Shettleston and Barrachnie, 4½ miles (7 km) east southeast of the city centre. Sandyhills began as a collier settlement, with 19th C. Ordnance Survey maps showing both the Mount Vernon Colliery and smaller Palace Pit nearby. Sandyhills Golf Club was founded in 1905 and maintains a course to the southwest, beyond Sandyhills Park, which was once the location of Sandyhills House.
