Shown as a farm on 19th C. Ordnance Survey maps, along with the Hill of Danestone to the west, the area was developed as private housing from the 1980s. Facilities include a police station, Danestone Medical Practice, Danestone Primary School (1986), Danestone Congregational Church (1986), and a Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, together with Danestone Park and an enormous Tesco Extra to the southwest.
