Achafolla

A scattered settlement in the centre of Luing in the Inner Hebrides of Argyll & Bute, Achafolla is the location for island's primary school (opened 1877), Kilchattan Church (the island's only place of worship) and its war memorial. The remains of a corn-mill lie to the west of the road, disused since the 1890s although much remains including the iron water-wheel and its millstones. Water to power this mill was drawn from Lochan Iliter to the east, through an intermediate little reservoir (Linne Mheadhonach) which now dry. A half-mile (0.8 km) to the east northeast of the primary school is a well-preserved dun known as An Caisteal.
