Blindwells

A location in East Lothian, Blindwells lies a mile (1.7 km) northwest of Macmerry and 1¼ miles (2 km) east northeast of Tranent. Once a simple farmstead, this became a large opencast coal mine, opened in 1977, feeding coal to Cockenzie Power Station. The mine closed in 2000 and following remediation, the construction of a 'new town' began here in 2019. At least 1600 new homes will be built, along with education and healthcare facilities, retail outlets and other community services, on a site extending to 158 ha (390 acres).
