Craigend

(Craigs)

A location in S Edinburgh, Craigend lies between The Inch and Moredun and a half-mile (1 km) northeast of Liberton, Craigend (or Craigs) is strung out along Kingston Avenue and comprises the distinctive polychromatic brick-built Upper Craigend Cottages and the stone-built Under Craigend Cottages, both most likely built for agricultural workers in the mid 19th C. Originally known as Craigend Park, the remarkably ornate Kingston House was built 1867-69. Kingston Road was known as Craigs Road until 1938 when the name was changed to avoid confusion with Craigs Road in Corstorphine. Craigour (originally Craigo'er) lies a half-mile (1 km) to the southeast.
