Skipness

Argyll and Bute

Skipness is located on the east coast of the Kintyre Peninsula, 15 miles (24 km) southeast of Tarbert, within Argyll and Bute. The area surrounding Skipness is rich in flora and fauna and is an excellent base for walking holidays in Kintyre. At nearby Claonaig a ferry sails to the Isle of Arran in the Firth of Clyde. Skipness has a ruined castle which dates from the 13th Century as does the Chapel dedicated to St Brendan, although the Chapel is in a better state of repair. There is an electronic warfare calibration facility based at Port Na Chru, now operated by the defence contractor QinetiQ.
