Located on the island of Islay in Argyll and Bute, the small but picturesque settlement of Bridgend (Gael: Beul an Àtha) lies on both sides of the River Sorn, at the end of the main A846 road from Port Askaig and at the head of Loch Indaal. Once regarded as the island's 'capital', it benefits from a post office, shops, a hotel, bowling green and the livestock market for Islay is located here. From the 18th C. until the 1820s, there were two or three distilleries located here. To the north of Bridgend is Islay House, while to the south is the John Francis Campbell Monument.
