Cornaigmore

Argyll and Bute

A scattered crofting township in the north of the island of Tiree in the Inner Hebrides, Cornaigmore lies to the east of Loch Bhasapoll, 2 miles (3 km) north northwest of Crossapoll. The ruined Cornaig Mill is located here, along with Tiree High School, which provides nursery, primary and secondary education within a single building for the entire island. Norse invaders were seen off by local men in the Battle of the Sheaves, which was fought in the dunes behind Cornaig Beach. The Vikings are said never to have returned to the island following this defeat.
