Argyll and Bute

An elongated settlement on the southeast coast of the island of Jura, Argyll and Bute, Craighouse is located 3 miles (5 km) north of the southern tip of the island. The village spreads around a small bay and looks out onto the Small Isles of the Sound of Jura. The Small Isles Primary School is located at the north of the settlement, while the Isle of Jura whisky distillery lies at the southern end of the village. This ensures it is a popular stopping point for passing yachts. The Old Pier was the work of Thomas Telford (1757 - 1834), while a deep-water pier brings occasional visits by cruise ships.
