A scattered settlement amidst the open rolling landscape of Buchan, Dens straddles a stream called the West Den, 3 miles (5 km) southwest of Peterhead in Aberdeenshire. It comprises Dens, Little Dens, Meikle Dens and the Oldtown of Meikle Dens and to the south is Cairn Catto, a long burial cairn that dates from the 3rd-4th millennium BC.
