Leslie

Aberdeenshire

A small hamlet in Aberdeenshire, Leslie straddles the Gadie Burn, 4 miles (6 km) southwest of Insch and 11 miles (20 km) northwest of Inverurie. The ruined Leslie Castle, built in 1661 by William Forbes of Monymusk, was one of the last of the fortified houses of the northeast. The surrounding barony of Leslie had been acquired through the marriage of William Forbes's father with the widow of one of the last of the Leslies who had held sway here since the 12th Century.
