Kirkton of Glenbuchat

Aberdeenshire

A village with a church in the Strathdon district of western Aberdeenshire, Kirkton of Glenbuchat lies to the south of the Water of Buchat which joins the River Don at Bridge of Glenbuchat. Originally dedicated to St Peter, the parish church was rebuilt in 1629. To the east, near Mains of Glenbuchat, stand the ruins of Glenbuchat Castle which was built in 1590 by John Gordon of Glenbucket (Glenbuchat) in the style of a defensive laird's house. At the head of Glenbuchat, near Badenyon, the Earl of Fife built a shooting lodge in 1843.
