A small settlement in the Cromar district of Aberdeenshire, Coull is situated 3 miles (5 km) northwest of Aboyne between the Burn of Tarland and Coull Hill. Close by are the ruins of Coull Castle, a former stronghold of the Durward family of whom it was said that a Durward dying, the church bell of Coull would toll of its own accord. Coull House lies a mile (1.5 km) to the southeast.
