Parish Church, Auchterhouse

A village with a church at the centre of the Angus parish of Auchterhouse, Kirkton of Auchterhouse is located 5 miles (8 km) northwest of Dundee. Rebuilt in 1775, the parish church contains the nave of an earlier mediaeval building. Auchterhouse Hill rises behind the village to the north and 20th century housing is arranged in terraces along its slopes up to the former Sidlaw Sanitorium, which has been converted into flats. Quarrying was once an important industry and impressive stone walls around some of the houses are a reminder of this activity.

The hamlet of Auchterhouse lies a mile (1.5 km) to the southwest.
