A pleasant and leafy suburb situated on the River Doon on the south side of Ayr in South Ayrshire, the former village of Alloway is best known as the birthplace in 1759 of the poet Robert Burns. The Burns Museum possesses some of his original papers while the Land o' Burns Centre also has a display of his life and works. Nearby are the Auld Brig o' Doon, Alloway Kirk and the Burns Monument.
