Bolshan

Angus

A hamlet and estate in the Angus parish of Kinnell, Bolshan lies 5 miles (8 km) to the south of Brechin and 2 miles (3 km) northeast of Friockheim. Said to have been a gift from the Abbot of Brechin to the Abbot of Arbroath in 1127, Bolshan was the site of a castle which was removed by the 18th Century. Bolshan has associations with the Ogilvie family and the Maules, who became the Earls of Panmure.
